How to Cultivate Organic Cucumbers Suri

Makintau - Cucumber suri, in terms of name and shape, many people associate this plant with as a type of cucumber. But did you know, cucumbers are actually closer to melon, watermelon and cantaloupe plants than cucumbers?

Research conducted by the Genetic Biology Laboratory UGM said cucumbers have a nucleus chromosome of cells 2n = 24, while cucumbers 2n = 14.  The shape of the leaves is more rounded like a melon, while cucumbers are tapered. The seeds are also so, shorter like melons.

Farmers know cucumbers as plants that have pests such as cucumbers. Control measures are usually treated the same. It's just that this plant is more wayward in the face of these pests. This is one of them is caused by the appearance in the growth of branches and stem buds that are quite numerous and sturdy.

Cucumber suri is rich in provitamin A, serves as a natural antioxidant to prevent damage to the body's cells. In addition, it has a fairly high content of Vitamin C. In addition to vitamins this fruit is rich in essential minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron.

Land Processing

Fine hoe soil that will be used for the cultivation of cucumbers is better planted on flat soil and not made beds. Then make a planting hole measuring 1 x 1 meter, put compost or manure lizard cage each hole about 1 kg each, then let stand for 2 days.

Seed Planting

Planting is carried out after the fertilized soil is left for 2 days. Put the seeds as many as 2 seeds into each planting hole and then cover and flush regularly until the plant grows. Usually the plant grows in unison at 7 days after planting. If anyone has not grown to that age then do the embroidery.

Seeds are usually worn at least 1 year after production, their strength depends on the care and storage of the seeds. Usually seeds can be used for up to 1.5 years.

Cultivation of Cucumber Suri

At the age of 7 days after planting do weeding. Mature plants are able to compete with weeds. Even if it is already fruitful, this weed is beneficial because it becomes a base between the fruit and the soil. So that the fruit is not directly related to the soil and avoids the attack of worms and animals that come from the ground.

Cucumber suri is a wayward and drought-resistant plant. For that handling is not too difficult and does not need to be watered regularly.

Harvesting

The lifespan of cucumber suri plants from the start of planting to the first harvest ranges from 60-75 days, depending on the variety of seeds. Harvesting is carried out in stages up to 10 times the taking.

Fruits that are worthy of harvest can be seen by checking the fruit that has been released from the stalk. After the fruit is picked, do washing, sorting and finishing and then packing to be sold to the market or to the houses. Cucumber suri experiences its peak demand every fasting month as a dish to break.
